One of your body’s most vital senses is your sense of sight, which is why it’s essential to care for your eyes. Based on several studies, professionals have come up with various means and ways to preserve your vision and ensure your vision is protected. Unfortunately, along with scientific and medical advice, several myths have spread about eye care, and falling prey to these misconceptions could lead to damaged eyes or vision.

To help you steer clear of these misconceptions and ensure you have the most accurate information about eye care, St-Pierre Eye Care has debunked some of the most widely believed myths about eye care.

Myth 1: Regular eye exams aren’t important
People commonly think that as they can see fine, their eyes are healthy, and they do not require an eye exam. Many people think seeing well means your eyes are healthy, while this can sometimes be the case there are many potentially blinding conditions that have little or no symptoms. Some diseases like glaucoma can silently steal your peripheral vision leading to blindness if it’s not caught early enough. A thorough eye examination by a qualified optometrist can lead to early detection of potential diseases. Early detection is crucial for the long-term health of your eyesight.

Myth 2: All glasses are the same regardless of where you buy them
Many people see a pair of glasses and assume that all glasses are similar. While glasses are all fundamentally similar, the quality of the frames and lenses vary drastically. The material of the lenses used will affect the optical quality of your vision, the material used for your lenses will also determine how scratch-resistant they will be. We have had numerous new patients tell us how much better they can see with their new glasses when there was no prescription change, what they are noticing is a combination of the material, design, and accuracy of the measurements involved while selecting a pair of glasses. To disprove this myth seeing is believing.

Myth 3: You can improve your vision with eye exercises
Doing eye exercises will not make your vision better or reduce the need for glasses. Your vision depends on many factors, eye exercises will not significantly alter this. However, there are some binocular vision conditions like convergence insufficiency, a problem where the eyes have difficulties coming together to focus at near that can be ameliorated with certain eye exercises.
